- עֲבֵירָה, עֲבֵרָהf. (preced.) transgression, sin. Sot.3a (play on עבר Hif., with ref. to ויעבירו, Ex. 36:6) אדם עובר ע׳ בסתר והקב״ה מכריזוכ׳ man commits a sin in secret, and the Lord causes his exposure in public; ואין ע׳ אלא לשון הכרזהוכ׳ and the word ‘ăberah (cmp. preced.) has the meaning of publication (passing forth) Ib. אין אדם עובר ע׳ אלא אם כןוכ׳ a man does not sin, unless a spirit of insanity has entered into him.
